LEGENDARY COACH STEVE SPURRIER TO SPEAK AT PIONEER BOWL X BANQUET

Columbia, SC- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) are proud to announce Legendary University of South Carolina Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier as the Keynote Speaker at the annual Pioneer Bowl Banquet. The banquet will be held Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Embassy Suites Columbia and will start at 7:30 pm.
Coach Spurrier, has coached a national championship team, won seven Southeastern Conference titles, and won over 75 percent of the college games in which he has coached. After 17 successful collegiate seasons, Coach Spurrier has compiled a 163-55-2 (.756) won-loss record as a major college head coach, including a 15-10 mark at Carolina. He led the Duke Blue Devils to the 1989 Atlantic Coast Conference championship before returning to his alma mater, the University of Florida, as head coach in 1990. During his 12 seasons with the Gators, Spurrier's teams won seven Southeastern Conference championships, one national title and finished ranked in the nation's top 10 nine times. His record at Florida was an amazing 122-27-1 (.817). Spurrier, who won the 1966 Heisman Trophy as a quarterback for the Gators, most recently was head coach of the NFL's Washington Redskins (2002-03). He returned to the college ranks in 2005 after a one-year absence from the sidelines.

Pioneer Bowl X is the only NCAA sanctioned bowl game for HBCU’s. The Bowl Game features the Champion of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will take place on December 1, 2007 in Columbia, SC at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm and will air live on ESPNU.
